athiqah nurI am better known as Tiqa, originally come from Central Java but grew up in Jakarta. In 2003, I completed my undergraduate degree in International Relations at the Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta. I then moved back to Jakarta in 2005 and am currently working as a researcher in this institution, known as the Centre for Political Studies-the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (Pusat Penelitian Politik-LIPI). As part of research team on the development of international politics, I conducted a two-year research on Australian foreign policy and one-year research on Indonesian foreign policy. Those publications includes the annual research report in 2005 and 2006 on "The Evolution of Australian Defense Policy (1986-2005)", "China's Response on Australian Defense Policy (2000-2005)" and "The Economic and Energy Interest in Australia-China Relationship" as well as a 2007 research report on "The Foundation and Principle of Indonesian Foreign Policy". I also produced several short articles for P2P-LIPI official website in 2006, still about Australian foreign policy. In 2009, I graduated from the Graduate Studies in International Affairs (GSIA) at the Australian National University Canberra and wrote my final master thesis about "Masculine Imagery in Australian Foreign Policy". This thesis investigates the language utilized in the Australian government's official statements in the case of East Timor and argues that the languages have promoted particular gendered discourses, primarily the images of masculinity. From those publications, I have shown my academic interests on foreign policy issues, particularly the case of Australia and Indonesia, and have reinforced my interest on Gender in International Relations. I am excited to learn and conduct research on these issues and I hope to become more knowledgeable about the ways in which gender perspectives can be engaged in understanding international politics and providing inclusive approach in the study and practice of International Relations.
